Salud y calidad de vida en la tercera edad

En estos últimos días hemos escuchado en las noticias que el INE (Instituto Nacional de Estadística) ha anunciado que la expectativa de vida ha aumentado en España; 85 años en el caso de la mujer y algo menos de 80 años para los hombres.
Está claro que el adelanto en los nuevos tratamientos, las innovaciones en las técnicas de prevención, el cuidado en la alimentación y la disminución de los factores de riesgo cardiovascular susceptibles de ser modificados (hipercolesterolemia, diabetes, hipertensión, consumo de alcohol y tabaco, y el sedentarismo) han hecho posible este dato. Pero queda una cuestión que nos preocupa: cómo llegar a ser cada vez más longevos pero con una buena calidad de vida y sobretodo, llegar a esos años además de con salud, con autonomía e independencia.
Después de más de una década en la medicina pública y casi cinco años trabajando en residencias de mayores, estaréis de acuerdo conmigo en que la mejor calidad de vida es aquella en la que aún siendo mayores nos sentimos independientes en nuestros hogares y autónomos para nuestras labores diarias. Esto nos ayuda física y emocionalmente. Y por eso, desde estas líneas, voy a ir dando consejos e informando de temas de salud con el propósito de cumplir estos objetivos:
poder disfrutar de una vejez saludable e independiente en el hogar.
